Magdalena Lachowicz, PhD, from the AMU Faculty of History, cordially invites you to the upcoming IAS Invited Lecture Series in History 'Studies of Eastern Europe and the Post-Soviet Area'. This time, the guest speaker will be Professor Alexander Etkind from the Central European University in Vienna, who will deliver a lecture entitled 'Stopmodernism: Russia's War against Modernity'.
The event will be held on 11 January 2024 in room 3. 130 of the Collegium Historicum (2nd floor) between 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Professor Alexander Etkind is a representative of CEU's Department of International Relations. He has previously taught at the European Institute at the University of Florence (2013-2022), the University of Cambridge (2004-2013) and the European University of St. Petersburg (1999-2004). He received his PhD in Russian cultural history in Helsinki (1998). His current interests concern the political aspects of the Anthropocene, global decarbonisation and security in Eastern Europe. In the past, he has also worked on memory studies, European intellectual history, empires and decolonisation, and various aspects of Russian history.
Author of numerous publications, including Eros of the Impossible. The History of Psychoanalysis in Russia (Westview Press 1996) and Internal Colonization: Russia's Imperial Experience (Polity Press 2011).
