Prof. Shawn Loewen: What do second language researchers and teachers think of each other? The research-pedagogy link
The Research in English Applied Linguistics (REAL) group cordially invites students and teachers to its inaugural meeting this academic year, which will take place on Thursday 9 December at 4:45pm in Aula Heliodori.
The meeting will start with Professor Shawn Loewen’s talk: What do second language researchers and teachers think of each other? The research-pedagogy link
Abstract of the talk:
The relationship between second language teachers and researchers can be contentious. On the one hand, teachers may resent ivory tower researchers who do not address issues that teachers feel are relevant to real classroom instruction. On the other hand, researchers may feel frustrated that teachers do not pay attention to research findings that could facilitate L2 learning. This presentation explores research into both teachers’ and researchers’ perspectives on the research-pedagogy link and considers how to promote positive dialogue to achieve the mutual goal of effective L2 instruction.
The talk will be followed by a discussion.
