The results of the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities 2024, known as the Shanghai Ranking, have been published. American universities - Harvard University, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - consistently reign supreme at the top of the list. The Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, kept its place in the 901-1000 range - as in previous years. Eight Polish universities were classified in the ranking. The best results were achieved by the Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw, ranked between 401-500. The Gdansk University of Technology was also ranked highly, improving its position by rising to 801-900.
- "It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Adam Mickiewicz University has been ranked among the top 4% of universities worldwide," says Professor Rafał Witkowski, AMU's Vice-Rector for International Cooperation. He adds: - "Today, the results of the Shanghai ranking were announced. Among 22,000 universities included in this ranking, our University is classified between 901 and 1,000. It means that we have retained our position from last year while we have recorded an increase in three specific dimensions, which are taken into account in calculating this overall measurement. For us, it is a great success because the competition among universities in the global aspect is enormous, and we managed to record success and maintain our position," Prof Witkowski says.
The Shanghai ranking evaluates universities based on several essential criteria, such as the number of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal winners, the number of publications in Nature and Science journals, and the data analysis from the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index databases.
Compared to last year, AMU recorded an increase in all three indicators in which it is ranked and evaluated, respectively:
- publications in Nature and Science (N&S): 5.7 points (+1.2)
- papers indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index of the Web of Science (PUB) database: 25,1 (+1,8)
- staff scientific activity (PCP): 9,2 (+0,6).
