Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, has been ranked for the second time in the green QS World University Rankings: Sustainability, reaching 434th place globally and 4th position nationally.
The ranking classifies the world's universities based on their actions towards critical environmental, social and governance (ESG - Environmental, Social, Governance) issues.
The ranking methodology considers three domains: (1) Environmental Impact, (2) Social Impact and (3) Governance.
- The Environmental Impact field covers the assessment of the actions launched for the planet by conducting research in environmental and climate science, the university's impact on climate change mitigation and the impact of graduates on creating a more sustainable world.
- The Social Impact indicator assesses the university's activities in terms of equality measures, knowledge sharing and learning from others, and ensuring that graduates are marketable and students have a positive experience.
- The final field governance assesses the quality of leadership, its transparency, democratic and fairness standards and the willingness to decentralise power at universities.
More than 1,400 higher education institutions from around the globe are included in the QS Sustainability 2024 ranking, comprising 493 from Europe and 21 from Poland.
AMU was highly placed for the Equality indicator, which assesses the university's commitment and impact towards equality ( position 310th), and for the Environmental Education indicator, which measures the contribution and impact of the university's educational activities towards sustainability (position 392nd). It is worth mentioning that, in last year's edition of the ranking, AMU was classified in the 401-450 position with the participation of 700 global universities, so this year's standing is a significant success for the university.
Compared to Polish universities, AMU stands out favourably due to the following indicators: Equality, Health and Wellbeing, Impact of Education and Good Governance.
The top-ranked universities in the worldwide ranking are, in turn - the University of Toronto, the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Manchester. In Poland, the first three places in this year's edition of the QS Sustainability ranking are occupied by the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University and Gdansk University of Technology.
