AMU has a new dormitory - METEOR

On 18 September, the new Student Dormitory of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, was officially opened at the Morasko Campus.

Her Magnificence received a letter from the Minister of Education and Science, "I am extremely pleased that, thanks to the efforts of the authorities of Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, the idea of creating a new student residence has come to reality. I appreciate that the university, with its rich traditions of education dating back to the 17th century, constantly strives to ensure the highest standards of learning and comfortable living conditions for its students. I wish to thank all those involved in making this valuable project a success. I am convinced that the newly opened building will become a convenient space for expanding knowledge and skills of young people, but also for establishing peer relationships," - Minister Przemysław Czarnek wrote. The letter was read by Dorota Śliwińska - Senior Inspector at the Department of Pedagogical Supervision of the School Superintendent's Office in Poznań.

The opening of the new Students' Dormitory Meteor was also honoured by the presence of Sebastian Skuza, PhD - Secretary of State at the Ministry of Finance, General Inspector of Financial Information, Jadwiga Emilewicz - Secretary of State at the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, MP, Wojciech Jankowiak - Deputy Marshal of the Greater Poland Voivodship and Mariusz Wiśniewski - Deputy Mayor of the City of Poznań.

On behalf of all those studying at AMU, the President of the Student Government, Julia Przybyłowska, spoke.

- Students will be able to live in a dormitory which meets their expectations. Without a living problem, you could be more active at the university, develop much better scientifically and educate in your chosen field, or select other areas for development - she said - I hope that Morasko will experience this youth together with us and as students, we will use this facility, but also the whole Campus, to the best of our ability to integrate academic life, develop our culture and take advantage of what the university gives us - she added.

At the end of the ceremony, the Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University, jointly with the Director of Alstal's Poznań branch, Mariusz Linowiecki and the Chancellor of Adam Mickiewicz University, Dr. Marcin Wysocki, cut a commemorative cake.

DS Meteor is a five-storey building with residential and service areas for 400 students. The modern building has 160 single rooms and 120 double rooms with kitchenette and bathroom. On each floor, a space has been created for students with disabilities. In addition, there are separate kitchens with dining areas and laundry rooms with drying facilities on all floors.

The ground floor of the building will be used as a service area. Besides the canteen and the student club, a kindergarten and the headquarters of the university's Radio Meteor are located there. The investment included access roads, a car park and the required technical infrastructure.

The Meteor complex also includes:

  • a spacious green courtyard with a patio,
  • a playground/tennis court,
  • table tennis tables,
  • a relaxation area with hammocks among old birch trees.

A gym and a minimarket will soon complete the investment.

The architectural design of the dormitory, whose author is the architectural office DEDECO Sp. z o.o. "Warszawa" Sp. k. from Warsaw was selected in 2019 through a competition.

The main contractor for Meteor was the ALSTAL Group Sp. z o.o. The contract for the works was concluded on 17 December 2020.

The construction of the dormitory at the Morasko Campus took just under three years. The value of the investment, including equipment, was almost PLN 70 million.
