Collegium Polonicum as a model for academic cooperation between Poland and Germany

On 2 July, a Polish-German action plan was approved in Warsaw, in which the Polish and German Governments attach particular significance to mutual academic cooperation. The following were mentioned as role models: Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and their joint institution Collegium Polonicum. The document reads: "We encourage our higher education institutions and non-university research centres to deepen their cooperation at bilateral and European level. (...) Furthermore, we recognise the significant role of the European University Viadrina as an example of bilateral academic cooperation and the Collegium Polonicum in particular as a unique project between the European University Viadrina and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan."

- Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, has consistently set itself the target of increasing internationalisation in science and teaching, comments Professor Bogumiła Kaniewska, rector of Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan.  - The Collegium Polonicum, run as a joint unit with the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), is an excellent example of international cooperation in terms of teaching and research activities. No other Polish university can boast such an achievement. Collegium Polonicum has been operating for over 30 years, offering joint Polish-German study programmes and double degrees. The Collegium Polonicum's activities prove that bridges of understanding and cooperation between nations can be built through education and science. It is a place where people from different cultures meet to work together for a future based on mutual respect, understanding and shared development,"  - adds AMU Rector.

Prof. Eduard Mühle, President of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), emphasises - "The distinction of Viadrina and its Polish partner university is a welcome confirmation of our cross-border research and teaching activities. Due to its location on the Polish-German border and its founding mission, German-Polish cooperation is at the centre of Viadrina's activities and, at the same time, shapes our everyday academic life - in joint research projects with Polish partners and on Polish-German topics, in study programmes leading to German-Polish degrees and in intensive university partnerships, comments Prof. Mühle.
