Alexandra Staniewska, a doctoral student at the AMU Institute of Anthropology and Ethnology, is a member of the international research team that identified the remains of Bishop Teodomiro.
The clergyman, living at the turn of the eighth and ninth centuries, is known to have discovered the body of the apostle Saint James the Greater in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. According to the legend, the body got there from Jerusalem with the help of angels. Today, one of the most significant Christian routes in Europe leads to Santiago de Compostela.
Researchers believe Teodomiro is the oldest identified historical figure in Spain and one of the oldest in Europe. A publication summarising the results of the research was published in the journal Antiquity.
