Equality language at AMU - Recommendations for the academic community with particular emphasis on gender equality

We kindly invite you to read the letter of the AMU Rector, Professor Bogumiła Kaniewska and the AMU Vice-Rector for Research, Professor Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kołaczyk, regarding the published language recommendations.

Dear All,
Dear Academic Community of our University,

We wish AMU to be a place where diversity is respected and gender equality is honoured. Diversity promotes intellectual development, modern education and social well-being. We may observe the principles of equality in our daily interactions. The way we communicate plays a significant role in achieving this. Through language, we identify people, we can show them respect and empathy, or we can discriminate and exclude them.

This is why an interfaculty team has prepared material entitled ‘EQUAL LANGUAGE AT ADAM MICKIEWICZ UNIVERSITY, POZNAŃ Recommendations for the academic community with a particular focus on gender equality’.

The recommendations are a kind of language guide that provides practical assistance in implementing equality language in our everyday university life. They are intended to serve everyone working and studying at AMU. They include a variety of practical examples demonstrating that language can and should be modified to express what is meaningful to us. We support the initiative and will do our best to create a safe space for making this change process happen.

Let us keep the words uniting us. Enjoy a careful reading!
