People of faith are more likely to believe conspiracy theories regarding health and medicine, say researchers from the Adam Mickiewicz University in “Humanities and Social Sciences Communications”. Muslims and Catholics are shown to be most vulnerable to such narratives.
A team consisting of Prof. Piotr Jabkowski (AMU Faculty of Sociology ), Prof. Jan Domaradzki (PUMS), and Dr Mariusz Baranowski (AMU Faculty of Sociology ) analysed Eurobarometer data from 37 European countries. Results? Religiosity may be an essential factor influencing scepticism towards medical procedures, especially in Central and Eastern European and Balkan countries.
Scientists emphasise that additional analysis and a more methodologically rigorous are needed to better analyse this phenomenon.
