Prof. Michal Bogdziewicz, director of the AMU Forest Biology Centre, has become the National Champion of the International Frontiers Planet Prize 2024 competition. The twenty-three National Champions were announced on 22 April, on Earth Day. 'Reproductive collapse in European beech results from declining pollination efficiency in large trees' is the title of the successful study submitted by the AMU scientist. Prof. Bogdziewicz now has a chance to win the Grand Prize. Three International Champions will be chosen at a ceremony on 25 June in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland. Each will be awarded the grand prize of one million Swiss francs to support their research.
Commenting on his research for the Frontiers Planet Prize, Prof. Michal Bogdziewicz said: "Climate change is disrupting forest regeneration, threatening the health of the ecosystem. Understanding this process is crucial for forest conservation.
