Poland wins EUROASMUS AND FRIENDS CUP 2023

On 12 October this year, the EUROASMUS AND FRIENDS CUP 2023 International Football Tournament was held on the pitch of the POSiR Rataje Centre. Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań was a partner of this event.

The event was attended by 80 students from more than a dozen countries from all over the world. Although there were eight performing teams: Algeria, China, Canada, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Italy and Poland, representatives of other nationalities also played in some of them (according to the regulations, in a 10-person team of international students studying in Poznań, at least four players had to be citizens of that country. Only 1 team could represent a specific country).

Sixteen matches were played during the day, initially played in two groups. The four best teams progressed to the semi-finals to face each other in the competition for 3rd place and, in the grand final, eventually featuring teams from Poland and Italy. After a game lasting 2 x 8 minutes and scoring three goals, the red and white teams won the cup for the best team, 3:1. The match for third place, between Lebanon and Algeria, was even more closely fought. After regular time, the scoreboard read 1:1, which meant a penalty shoot-out. The result was a 2-0 victory for Lebanon.

The EUROASMUS AND FRIENDS CUP has enjoyed great interest among the international academic community. Organised for the first time in 2012, it still attracts many eager participants, integrating students from all over the world studying in Poznań.
