Professor Bogumiła Kaniewska, rector of Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, was elected President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) for the 2024-2028 term. She is the second woman to hold this position. In the past term, she was a member of the CRASP Presidium and served as the President of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities. Elections for the new CRASP authorities were held on 27 June. Their term of office will begin on 1 September 2024.
Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska graduated in Polish Studies from the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. She received the professor title based on her monograph 'Opowiedziane. O prozie Wiesława Myśliwskiego'. Her academic interests include predominantly 20th-century literature, translation theory and children's literature. She is the author of a book devoted to first-person narration, " Świat w granicach >ja< " and a book devoted to the problems concerning Polish novels at the turn of the 20th and 21st century, "Śladami Tristrama Shandy". She is co-author of a textbook on literary theory (in collaboration with Prof. Anna Legeżyńska), several popular science books (including "Literature of the 20th Century" - in co-authorship with Prof. Anna Legeżyńska and Prof. Piotr Śliwiński).
In 2012, she assumed the dean's role at AMU Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology. In 2016, she was elected Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Teaching and has been AMU Rector since 2020. She was also appointed for another term, 2024-2028. She has supervised - as part of her participation in the EPICUR consortium - the preparation of the application that resulted in the granting of the European University status to AMU.
She initiated projects such as the psychological support programme for students and the 'Visible Hand of AMU' campaign. She is actively involved in the AMU project "When Science is a Woman". She holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Upper Alsace in Mulhouse.
