On 8 July, during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, the President of Poland awarded Prof. Zbigniew Pilarczyk from the AMU Faculty of History the Order of Polonia Restituta "for renowned dedication to the education of generations of young people in the spirit of scouting and the shaping of patriotic values."
Prof. Zbigniew Pilarczyk is an expert in military history and the history of fortifications. His research interests also include the history of scouting. In 2008-2012 and 2012-2016, he was Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Teaching at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań.
The Order of Polonia Restituta is the second-highest Polish civil order. It is awarded for eminent services to the state and society, and in particular for outstanding achievements in public activity undertaken for the benefit of the country, for exceptional contributions to strengthening the sovereignty and defence of the country, for the development of the national economy, public service, for renowned scientific, literary and artistic work, and outstanding efforts to the development of cooperation between the Republic of Poland and other countries and nations.
