The project idea originated as a joint initiative among people working and studying at AMU. Each stage of the project is coordinated and carried out collectively by researchers from the Faculty of Sociology, and by members of the Academic Club of Individuals Studying Sociology.
Dr Łukasz Rogowski, Vice-Dean for Cooperation and Development of the Faculty of Sociology, UAM: "The University is not only a place of learning. It also has another function. It is where social bonds are forged while spending time between classes or work requires space for relaxation and facilities to meet nutritional needs. It is, therefore, worth ensuring that university buildings and infrastructure respond to the multidimensional needs of the various users - and indeed, this is what our research aims to do. As part of it, we conduct interviews, research walks, university-wide surveys and, at consultation stands, we ask for the opinions of anyone willing to share their views. In this way, we also nurture the University's relationship with its environment, including the University's place in the urban fabric."
Julita Prusak, President of the Academic Club of Individuals Studying Sociology: "The idea behind the project came from our own experiences, observations and reflections on how university spaces can support the academic community. Using a sociological sensibility, we want to have a lively conversation directly with the different groups of people who use university buildings and map their and our - the students' - needs and ultimately develop recommendations to ensure everyone within the University improves their relationship with its spaces."
A public consultation presentation is scheduled for the beginning of the new academic year. The research is funded by the Excellence Initiative- Research University project.
