Jeff Bremer is a professor of history at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, USA. He specializes in U.S. history, especially the early republic period, Iowa state history, and social studies methodology. At Iowa State University, Jeff Bremer coordinates the teacher education program in history and social studies. In 2019, he was a Fulbright Scholar at Northeast Normal University in China.
Jeff Bremer is the author of A Store Almost in Sight: The Economic Transformation of Missouri from the Louisiana Purchase to the Civil War (2014) and A New History of Iowa (2023), a comprehensive regional study of Iowa's history from the last Ice Age to the end of 2020. He is currently working on a new history of Des Moines.
At the Faculty of English, Prof. Bremer will be teaching a theme seminar on the history of American capitalism in the summer semester of 2023/2024. He is also preparing a series of open lectures, workshops, and talks on various aspects of American history and culture. Jeff Bremer will also advise on the curriculum for the new American Studies major in the Faculty of English.
