"The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Adam Mickiewicz University is one of the most significant and best research and teaching centres in the country," says the dean, Prof. Krzysztof Dyczkowski. Researchers conduct studies on the following areas of mathematics: functional analysis, algebra, number theory, theory of differential equations, topology, logic, mathematical statistics and discrete mathematics. The research space in computer science includes artificial intelligence, algorithm theory, cryptography, and computer security.
At present, the Faculty offers four-degree programs: mathematics, computer science, data analysis and processing, and teaching mathematics and computer science. It also offers postgraduate studies, e.g. in BigData, conducted jointly with leading IT companies. In addition, the Faculty has the only certified LEGO studio in Poland.
"The Faculty focuses on world-class education with the use of modern knowledge transfer techniques, says Prof Krzysztof Dyczkowski. - We cooperate closely with the leading technology companies in the area of research and education. An example of such cooperation is the Faculty's Centre for Artificial Intelligence", he adds. The Faculty leads a very active scientific life, exemplified by the organisation of workshops and lectures named after Władysław Orlicz (since 1993), Wojtek Pulikowski (since 1994), Różycki and Zygalski (since 2008) - graduates of the university.
- Employees, doctoral students and students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Adam Mickiewicz University have won significant international prizes and distinctions, reminds Dean Dyczkowski. - A team composed of doctoral students Artur Nowakowski and Gabriela Pałka and master's students Kamil Guttmann and Mikołaj Pokrywka was awarded first place in the 'General MT Shared Task' competition, organised as part of the world's most prestigious conference on machine translation; Conference on Machine Translation 2022. The challenge was to make the best possible translator to interpret texts from various fields. The WMiI team beat well-known translators from companies such as Google, Microsoft, Yandex and Amazon and won against other research teams, including Charles University in Prague and Inria.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science has signed more than 20 cooperation agreements with enterprises. The Employers' Council at the Faculty is thriving. An annual Job Fair is organised.
