The Faculty of Physics celebrates 30 years

The Faculty of Physics is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2023. The main commemoration was organised on 12 October.

'I would like to congratulate all of you on what you have already achieved and wish that each successive year will bring further achievements,' said Professor Bogumiła Kaniewska, Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University. - I have two presents for you. One measurable and the other unquantifiable. The first one, the tangible one, is two owls symbolising physics on the one hand and astronomy on the other. The second gift, the intangible one, is a document which I hope you will enjoy. It is an ordinance: at the request of the Lord Dean, as of 1 September 2024, the Faculty of Physics changed its name to the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy. Congratulations! - announced the Rector.

Physics has been present at the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, since its inception. - 'We conduct research at the highest world level,' said Professor Roman Gołębiewski, Dean of the Faculty of Physics. - 'This is possible, among other things, thanks to our extensive cooperation with scientists from all over the world and our state-of-the-art infrastructure, which we are constantly striving to expand and enrich,' he adds.

In response to the changing labour market requirements, the Faculty of Physics is updating and enriching its teaching offer. In 2023, the Faculty opened the first innovative course of study in Poland, 'Quantum Informatics', operated in close cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and IBM.

Every year, the Faculty is the organiser or co-organiser of many international scientific conferences. The Faculty members are highly active in obtaining funding from external sources (e.g. from the National Centre for Research and Development and the National Science Centre).

The Faculty of Physics was a pioneer in educating students in the fields of optics, optometry, medical physics and hearing prosthetics. Nowadays, the didactic offer includes over a dozen undergraduate and postgraduate courses and exceptionally attractive specialisations.
