On 13 September, the 52nd Poznań Linguistic Meeting, the largest Polish linguistics conference organised by the Faculty of English under the guidance of Prof. Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kołaczyk, Vice-Rector for Research, began at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism.
The theme of this year's meeting is the question, "Why are some theories more successful than others?". The event, as every year, has attracted eminent linguists from all over the world. Plenary lectures will be given, among others, by Ophelia Deroy (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich), Miriam Meyerhoff (Oxford University) and Wolfgang Dressler (University of Vienna).
- "This year, we wish to reflect on the general question of what makes a theory successful, particularly in linguistics, we want to consider questions of why some theories are more successful than others. What makes some approaches move out of the mainstream and become extremely widespread while others remain in a niche? I encourage participants to discuss these questions in their presentations and during the open debate.", said Vice-Rector, Prof Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kołaczyk at the opening ceremony.
The conference will last until 15 September.
