At the beginning of September, the University Library in Poznań will launch the final stage of the modern library system Alma and the intuitive Primo search engine. Alma is a new-generation, cloud-based solution used by leading academic libraries worldwide, including those in Poland.
Due to the data migration to the new system, from 1 to 14 September, the lending and reading rooms of the University Library (BUP) and most of the organisational unit libraries (BJO) will not be accessible to readers:
- BUP's lending machines are closed;
- Until 22.08, last orders can be placed for external storage materials https://lib.amu.edu.pl/katalogbu/. Orders submitted after this date will not be processed and will not be transferred to the new system.
- Until 29.08, till 2 p.m., orders can be placed for materials from the BUP warehouse processed in the BUP lending library and reading rooms. Orders placed after 2 p.m. will not be processed and will not be transferred to the new system.
- Until 29.08., by 5 p.m., materials previously ordered can be collected;
- Until 31.08, the online catalogue can be used.
- Until 31.08. It is still possible to sign up for BUP and BJO in the current system. No orders, bookings, returns or payments will be possible after this date.
- From 01.09 to 14.09, the lending and reading rooms will be closed
- From 01.09. to 14.09. It will not be possible to borrow books or enrol new readers;
- Deadlines for the return of materials due for closure will be automatically extended until 30 September 2025.
- Until 14.09, chosen library processes, such as collection and cataloguing, have been suspended.
You should ensure that you create a library account in the current system so that you can still borrow, renew, or return books now, or at the latest by the end of August this year.
The previous system will not transfer the history of borrowed books, including the titles, borrowing dates, and return dates. Therefore, BUP recommends saving this history in a personal file.. It will also not be possible to migrate orders and bookings from the old system to the new one.
The AMU libraries will be available again, now with the Alma system and the Primo multi-search engine, from 15 September 2025.
The Alma system was created by Ex Libris in partnership with notable universities, including Boston College, KU Leuven, Princeton University Library, and Purdue University Library.
The National Library of Poland was the first institution to implement the system. As a result, the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań's library resources will also be visible in the national catalogue of academic libraries.
Primo, in turn, is an intuitive tool for searching online collections, print and electronic, found not only in the University Library and AMU's organisational unit libraries, but also in many other libraries in Poland.
"The deployment of Alma and Primo in the libraries of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, will be beneficial for our users, including, above all, integrated searching of traditional and electronic collections or broader access to resources - including those from outside the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań," - says Dr Małgorzata Dąbrowicz, head of the University Library. - "A new, more convenient interface and log-in, easier searching, alerts on the availability of publications or self-management of loans and online bookings - these are further improvements for users," adds Dr Małgorzata Dąbrowicz.
