ALSTAL Construction Group has completed the construction of the new dormitory on the Morasko Campus. As a result, AMU has been granted permission to occupy it, and furnishing has begun.
- We have been waiting for this moment for many years, step by step implementing the University's development strategy adopted nearly 20 years ago. At Poznan's Morasko, known by many as the scientific district of Poznan, students will be living in a new dormitory. Thus, after many years of expansion, we will have a real student town in Poznan! - says the Rector of UAM, Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska. She adds: - A meteor is a luminous trace left in the sky by a meteoroid that has fallen into the Earth's atmosphere. I hope that staying here will leave just such a bright trace in the lives of our Meteor residents - an unforgettable memory of an academic adventure.
- I am immensely proud of the realisation of this investment. My team and I have done a tremendous amount of work to ensure that the building meets the needs of the residents and the entire university community. I believe that the students will feel exceptional here and will be able to achieve their dreams in comfortable conditions,' said Marcin Kuśmider, Project Manager from ALSTAL.
The new student residence is a five-storey building with a residential and service area. It will accommodate up to 400 students.
The modern building has 160 single rooms and 120 double rooms, each with a kitchenette and bathroom. On each floor, a special room was created for students with disabilities. Furthermore, separate kitchens with dining areas and laundry rooms with drying facilities have been built on all floors. After classes, residents will be able to relax in the building's spacious green courtyard, on the sports field, playing table tennis or chill-out in area with hammocks among the old birch trees. The ground floor of the building will be used as a service area. In addition to the canteen and the student club, there will be a kindergarten, a minimarket and a gym. The kindergarten has its own educational landscape garden with planted strawberries, currants and space for seasonal vegetables. The university's radio station Meteor will also find its new home in the dormitory. The project included the construction of access roads, a car park and the necessary technical infrastructure.
The architectural design of the dormitory, created by the architectural office DEDECO Sp. z o.o "Warszawa" sp. k. from Warsaw, was selected in 2019 through a competition. The construction of the dormitory on the Morasko campus took less than three years. The value of the investment, including equipment, was almost PLN 70 million.
It is not ALSTAL's first realisation for Adam Mickiewicz University. The company has realised the revitalisation of Collegium Heliodori Święcicki and is currently renovating the historic Koszarowiec building on Al. Niepodległości.
