The success of the university's Jean Monnet Center of Excellence

The Faculty of Political Science and Journalism is pleased to announce that the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) has approved the report on the implementation of the Jean Monnet EU EX/ACT Center of Excellence (EU External Actions in the contested global order - (in)coherence, (dis)continuity, resilience), carried out at AMU from 2018 to 2022 (Approval of Final Report and Notification of Recovery Order Reference: Jean Monnet Programme, CoE Grant Decision n° 2018-1763/001/ 599622-EPP-1-2018-1-PL-EPPJMO-CoE).

The Jean Monnet EU EX/ACT Center of Excellence is a prestigious European grant awarded to Adam Mickiewicz University in 2018 as one of the then 19 university centres in the globe.

The program was successfully implemented at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism by an experienced research group under the scientific supervision of Prof. Tadeusz Wallas. The project was a realisation of the Faculty staff's previous experience of heading two Chairs and the Jean Monnet module. A measure of the success of the realized grant was much more prominent than the planned number of participants in the activities undertaken.

The total number of direct beneficiaries of the Center's actions amounted to more than 9,000, with an additional 5,000 indirect recipients. Therefore, researchers from the CISU of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań reached almost 14 thousand beneficiaries in Poland and around the world, which is a unique and impressive result even by the standards of such a multifaceted and complex research project. We extend our sincere congratulations to the grantee implementers!

The main objective of the Centre was to raise awareness of the role and importance of the European Union in international politics by equipping a wide range of students, scholars and practitioners at home and abroad with knowledge, skills and competencies related to the European Union's external action and geopolitical and geo-economic engagement. The purpose of the project, despite the profound setbacks resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, was successfully achieved. It is mirrored in both its quantitative and qualitative dimensions. The former is illustrated by the implementation of almost all the activities planned in the proposal, in addition to the organization of other unplanned events related to the project (without incurring additional economic costs). A measure of the success of the executed grant was significantly higher than the planned number of participants in the activities undertaken. As intended, the beneficiaries of the grant were professionally trained and socialized in the spirit of mutual understanding, European solidarity and responsibility for the fate of Europe and the world. Participating students, scholars and other stakeholder groups were provided with professional research and cognitive tools for navigating the newly emerging post-covid international reality, locally, regionally, as well as in the European and global dimensions.

Following the project design, the four main modules of the EU EX/ACT grant were successfully executed:

1. Didactics: nine 10-hour seminars offered each year, as well as a series of open lectures aimed at a broad academic audience at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, as well as at other universities (in an innovative and comprehensive form), which were attended by an impressive number of more than 5,000 participants.

2. Dissemination of research (Deliverables): including a website, flyers, newsletters, films, a scientific monograph ("EU external actions in the contested global order", Poznań 2022), scientific articles, teaching and conference materials, film festivals and multimedia shows; all the above materials were prepared and widely disseminated in Poland, Europe and the world.

3. research: included a cross-sectional and multidimensional research process conducted institutionally by the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and numerous visiting scholars in Poland and abroad. The research was adopted in the form of scientific publications and conference papers, short research visits for young scientists from abroad to UAM, research visits by members of the UAM EU EX/ACT team to foreign scientific centres, and the form of active participation in national and international conferences.

4. concurrent events: numerous conferences, seminars (webinars), meetings and sessions in the form of stationary and remote - all successfully organized, attracting significant attention from the audience and very positive responses.

The EU EX/ACT project has gained high visibility in Poland and abroad, impacting the research and cognitive activity both of its implementers and beneficiaries. Thanks to its execution, a coherent recommendation of studies in the field of external relations of the European Union was created.

The team of researchers has significantly contributed to the promotion of European integration studies in Poland and the recognition of AMU in Europe and the world. Thanks to the grant, the scientific excellence of the home university in the field of research on European integration processes and external actions of the European Union has been effectively maintained.
