Winners of the " Greater Poland for Planet 2030" award in Singapore

Three winners of the " Greater Poland for Planet 2030" Marshal Marek Woźniak's award: Natalia Genstwa-Namysł, PhD (Faculty of Economics, UPP), Łukasz Szał, PhD (WNGiG UAM), Michał Sulik, M.Sc. (Faculty of Chemistry, AMU) participated from 1-6 August in several meetings in Singapore on sustainable development and artificial intelligence.

The first meeting was held at the CREATE Tower at the National Singapore University, at which the young researchers spoke with PhD Srilalitha Gopalakrishnan, Associate Director Research Future Cities Laboratory Global, and Karolina Minta, PhD (post-doc at NSU), on topics related to urban planning, long-term planning, sustainability, and the use of artificial intelligence to rehabilitate individuals after neurological diseases.

The laureates subsequently travelled to the Embassy of the Republic of Poland for a meeting with Second Secretary Wojciech Wątły and public diplomacy officer Anna Szumańska-Teodorczyk on scientific and economic cooperation (with particular emphasis on the services market) between the two countries.

Courtesy of Corinna Chong, Ph.D., Director of the Department of Branding and Sustainability at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, the awardees had the pleasure not only to learn about the organisation of the university campus and the collaboration between Dyson and the students and academics, but also, thanks to Harvey Neo, Ph.D., to explore the latest research in human-nature connections, sustainability initiatives and, with Professor Soujanya Poria, to get to know a range of projects underway at the University on the use of AI in various scientific fields and future communication programmes.

In addition, there was no shortage of encounters with the use of new technologies in practice, with an example being a visit to Global Enviro, a Start-up dedicated to the reuse of car tyres utilising technology using plasma pyrolysis induction to convert tyres into carbon or rubber crumbs ready for reuse in tyre manufacturing. Laureates could see the recycling process from the inside, kindly provided by company founder and CEO Thomas Lin and COO Tiong Heng Liong.

The last of meetings focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in science and technology and the various projects led by National AI Singapore on Sustainability and the National Strategy for AI in Singapore led by Sintia Teddy-Ang, PhD. - Director of National AI Strategy and Director of Strategic and Synergistic Programmes in the Office of the Senior Vice President and Vice Chancellor of the National University of Singapore.

The tour included time to explore the city-state of Singapore's cultural, city-building, historical and tourism highlights.
