Recommendations for the use of generative AI in-class work
The following control levels for using SI systems in the classes are recommended. The decision on the appropriate level is made by the subject coordinator based on the content and learning outcomes of the applicable course syllabus.
The lecturer should inform the students accordingly about the possibility, or prohibition, of using generative IS systems in the first class while presenting the syllabus and the detailed course plan.
Use is allowed only with permission on an individual or justifiable basis.
Students are only allowed to use artificial intelligence systems in class with the permission of the instructor on a case-by-case basis. If consent is not given, assignments should be completed entirely on an individual basis. Lecturers should clearly define when generative AI tools are permitted to be used, stating their expectations and instructing how they should be cited and used. The use of such tools without the permission of the lecturer in any part of the work prepared in this course will be treated in the same way as plagiarism.
Prohibited use
As defined in this course, students are required to complete assignments independently without the use of GSI systems. Students shall be informed of this prohibition, and reasons for not using these systems should be explained to them, possibly helping them to understand the context and expectations. The use of GSI tools in any part of the work prepared in this course will be treated the same way as plagiarism.
Use only permitted with appropriate identification
Students are allowed to use generative artificial intelligence systems as part of their coursework, providing their use is appropriately documented and attributed without the need for prior permission from the instructor. In such situations, they must be cited clearly and marked where they are used. Using such tools without proper attribution in any part of the work prepared in the course will be considered in the same manner as plagiarism.
Use is entirely permitted without the need for marking
Within the course thus defined, students are free to use artificial intelligence systems without requiring special marking or citation of their use.
The above principles can be applied to the entire course and, as appropriate, to individual sub-tasks within the course being taught.
