Platinum and gold... A breakthrough in electrocatalysis

A new article by Dr Adam Kubiak, Prof Marcin Frankowski and Prof Michał Cegłowski from the AMU Faculty of Chemistry has been published in the Chemical Engineering Journal (IF=15.1). The study concerns an innovative method for the simultaneous deposition of platinum (Pt) and gold (Au) nanoparticles on a carbon carrier.

- "In response to the need to integrate materials engineering with sustainable development, our research introduces an innovative method for the simultaneous deposition of platinum (Pt) and gold (Au) nanoparticles on a carbon support. The technology presented enables the formation of efficient electrocatalysts with enhanced electrochemical activity for fuel cell use", the authors note in the publication and add:

- ''A key feature of our approach is the use of LED light to precisely control the photo deposition process, enabling the formation of homogeneous Pt-Au nanostructures. This method enhances, not only, the catalytic activity but also improves the poisoning resistance of the catalysts, resulting in a longer lifetime. Importantly, the use of energy-efficient LED light significantly reduces energy costs, contributing to global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint. Our findings open up new perspectives for industry and technology, offering solutions, which are efficient and sustainable".
