The involvement of the community of our University in helping the fighting Ukraine and the support flowing from this continues unabated. In this context, cooperation in the areas of education and culture is highly significant.
You are invited to participate in an engaging musical event, which is the culmination of a Polish-German-Ukrainian project dedicated to the Book of Psalms, whose initiator is Prof. Małgorzata Grzywacz from the Institute of Cultural Studies, who has been involved in helping and caring for children and young people from Ukraine since 22.03.2022.
The basis for the concept was the activities of the "Green House" Club, which, since 25.02.2023, has been transformed into the "Polish-Ukrainian Children and Youth Development Centre at the Poznan branch of the Polish Evangelical Society.
The well-known Ukrainian composer, curator of theatre and art projects and performer Andrii Merkhel joined the project team, now affiliated with the Institute of Cultural Studies. Together with biblical scholar Dr Joanna Kiersztejn and Dr Michał Jadwiszczok - from Professor Wiktor Degi Secondary School No. XV in Poznań succeeded in creating an absorbing musical and educational project. The title 'Psalms speak - Psalmen sprechen - Псалми говорять' refers to the essential human experience expressed on the pages of the Bible, a common and imperishable cultural heritage. The combination of educational activities - broadly conceived - with contemporary Ukrainian music and culture made it possible to discover new relationships and mutual inspirations. It has been successful in inviting well-known creators of modern culture from Ukraine - musicians associated with the Nova Opera and Sed Contra Ensemble formations - to participate in the project.
The students of the XV High School in Poznań and the Polish-Ukrainian Centre for Children and Youth Development collaborated with them.
The concert - presenting the results of their joint work - will be performed on Saturday, 17 June 2023, at 6 p.m. in the Evangelical Church of the Grace of God in Poznań (obozowa 5) [admission free].
During the event, meditations to Psalms - Nos. 102, 90, 63 and 34 by Andrii Merkhel - will be heard for the first time. In addition to young people, such well-known Ukrainian musicians as Andrii Koshman - baritone, Serhii Vilka - flute, Dmytro Pashynskyi - clarinet and Denys Karachevtsev - cello will perform.
The event is realised as part of the project "Bridges of the Future. Poland and Germany for Ukraine", with funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.
