The Dean of the AMU Faculty of Law and Administration, Prof. Tomasz Nieborak, invites you to an open lecture by Prof. Joshua Karton, professor of law and vice-dean at the Faculty of Law at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada.
The lecture, entitled "Keeping our economic engines well-oiled: making arbitration work for entrepreneurs in cross-border commerce", will be held on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, at 3 p.m. in the Auditorium (room 207) of Collegium Rubrum. Niepodległości 53 in Poznań.
The lecture is organised in cooperation with the Curia Alterna Research Club and with the support of the City of Poznań as part of the Open Lectures programme.
About the lecturer
Professor Joshua Karton is a professor and Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Programme Development at Queen's University Faculty of Law in Kingston, Canada. He received his BA from Yale University, his JD from Columbia University, and his PhD from the University of Cambridge. Before pursuing his doctorate, he worked as a commercial litigation lawyer in New York and Hong Kong.
Professor Karton's research focuses on how parties from diverse legal, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds resolve disputes. He is the author of the acclaimed book "The Culture of International Arbitration and the Evolution of Contract Law" (Oxford University Press, 2013) and has authored or edited four other books, as well as dozens of articles published in leading academic journals. A member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, and a frequent speaker at academic and industry conferences around the world. In addition to his scholarly activities, Professor Karton also acts as an arbitrator in domestic and international commercial disputes.
