PUBLIC LECTURES BY PROF. MIEKE BAL

The Institute of Cultural Studies and the Institute of Art History, Adam Mickiewicz University, kindly invite the general and academic public to open lectures by Prof. Mieke Bal, connected with the screenings of films she co-authored, which offer an important commentary on the condition of the humanities and culture. The meetings are a part of the Academic Poznań programme.

Mieke Bal is one of the most influential and recognizable theorists in the field of cultural and visual studies, a curator of exhibitions, an artist, a creator of video installations, professor emerita of the University of Amsterdam, and founder of the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis. She is the author of numerous groundbreaking books combining the fields of art history, and literary and cultural studies, such as Quoting Caravaggio. Contemporary Art, Preposterous History (1999), Travelling Concepts in the Humanities (2002) or, recently, Image-Thinking. Artmaking as Cultural Analysis (2022).

The organizers of the lectures are the Institute of Cultural Studies and the Institute of Art History, Adam Mickiewicz University, supported by funding from the City of Poznań as a part of the Academic Poznań programme, and Zamek Culture Center as a host for one of the events.

The screening of It’s About Time! will take place courtesy of VN Lab and The Polish National Film, Television and Theater School in Łódź.

Both events will be conducted in English and are open to the general public and free of charge.
