Event date:

Open Lecture "Lewis Acidic Boranes as Catalysts for Carbene Transfer Reactions”

The lecture on "Lewis Acidic Boranes as Catalysts for Carbene Transfer Reactions" concludes the AMU Invited Lecture Series in Modern Catalysis. It will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at 10 am on the TEAMS platform.

Prof. Rebecca Melen received her PhD in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Domminic S. Wright at the University of Cambridge, pursuing a thesis on "Catalytic Versus Stoichiometric Dehydrocoupling Using Main Group Metals," followed by postdoctoral fellowships in the groups of Prof. Douglas Stephan at the University of Toronto (2012-2013) and Prof. Gade at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg (2013-2014). In 2014, she took up a position at Cardiff University in Wales, UK, where she is currently employed as a professor as of 2021. Prof. Melen has been honoured with many awards, including the Clara Immerwahr Award (2016), EPRSRC (2018), and RSC Harrison Meldola Memorial Prize (2019).
Prof. Melen has co-authored about 90 scientific publications in the most prestigious journals, i.e. Science, Nature, J. Amer. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chem. Sci., Chem. Soc. Rev., Chem, ACS Catal. and has delivered more than 120 lectures. Prof. Melen's interests are in the chemistry of the major group elements, especially the application of Lewis acids in synthesis and catalysis. She is a world-renowned expert in organometallic chemistry and catalysis.

The event is organized by AMU Centre for Advanced Technologies.
