The law is not just about regulations
PhD Piotr Pilarczyk holds classes in different areas of law for the students of the Faculty of Law and Administration. He does his best to focus the students’ attention on varied facets of law.
Is the law boring?
The common perception is that the law is a set of norms and regulations, and hence is bound to be boring...
But why not go off script and say that the law is in fact multidimensional, giving us a chance to explore and examine how it keeps evolving and adjusting to the ongoing changes in modern society. After all, the law is present in different contexts of social and cultural life. For instance, there are plenty of legal threads in Belles-lettres.
What are the benefits of research into law and literature?
By reading Belles-lettres we certainly won’t get the hang of rules and regulations, but we can find out a lot about functioning and social perception of law. It’s true that plenty of literary works refer to remote legal issues, yet „Antigone” or ” Hamlet” offer universal values.
We live in the world ruled by law, and yet the majority of citizens aren’t lawyers. It’s literature that shapes our legal awareness from our chilchood.
How important is the legal awareness in the society?
Legal awareness involves knowledge of the law and attitude towards the latter. Learning about the law is the key to answering a number of questions, such as how effective modern law is.
All in all the law is definitely a fascinating and multidimensional area of study, giving us the possibility of multithreaded research encompassing history, sociology and literature.
The law is fascinating then!
