Aeneid Days as part of the worldwide Aeneid Festival

The Raczynski Library, the Adam Mickiewicz University Institute of Classical Philology and the Poznan Branch of the Polish Philological Society invite you to the Aeneid Days.

On March 23-24, the Lubrański Auditorium (Collegium Minus, 1 Wieniawskiego St.) will host an international scientific conference "Arma virumque. Vergil's Aeneid and Its Reception". The sessions will begin on March 23 at 9 am, and March 24 at 10:30 am.

On March 23 at 7 pm, a concert in the Lubrański Auditorium (Collegium Minus, 1 Wieniawskiego St.) will feature selected excerpts from operas: Francesco Cavalli, La Didone (1640) and Henry Purcell, Dido and Aeneas (1689).

On March 24 at 9:00 a.m., the Mickiewicz Salon, Collegium Maius of the Adam Mickiewicz University (10 Fredry St., 4th floor) will host an international reading of excerpts from the Aeneid with the participation of students of the Institute of Classical Philology of the Adam Mickiewicz University (under the direction of UAM Prof. Dr Piotr Stępień). Virgil's poem will be read in ten languages: Latin, Italian, English, Polish, German, Arabic, Turkish, Malayalam, Norwegian, and Finnish.

A public reading of the Aeneid (in Polish) will begin at 5 pm on March 24 at the Raczynski Library. The introductory lecture entitled “Film versions of the "Aeneid" will be given (in Polish) by UAM Prof. Radoslaw Piętka, PhD. Selected excerpts from Virgil's epic will be presented by lecturers from the Institute of Classical Philology at UAM (under the direction of UAM Prof. Monika Miazek-Męczyńska, PhD) and actors from the student theatre "Sphinga" (under the direction of Dr Lukasz Berger). Musical setting: Paweł Drozdowski.

The events will be accompanied by an exhibition The Aeneid of Our Ancestors prepared by Prof. Dr Piotr Bering, during which photographs and scans of manuscripts and old prints of Virgil's poem will be presented (Collegium Minus UAM, 1 Wieniawskiego St.).
