Dr Bogna Sztorch, Prof. Robert Przekop, MSc Julia Głowacka and Dr Daria Pakuła from the AMU Centre for Advanced Technologies are the authors of a new technology that has just been granted patent protection. The research team has created an innovative method to enhance a widely used material in 3D printing.
Patent No. 247400, granted to the University, concerns a polylactide (PLA)-based composite. Although this material is widely known and valued for its biodegradability, scientists at the Technological Processes Laboratory sought to significantly improve its performance. They enriched PLA with octaspheroxides (OSS) with methacrylate groups.
This chemical modification makes the new material much more resistant to mechanical stress, easier to process and offers broader functionality than pure PLA. The developed solution represents a crucial advancement in modern additive technologies, enabling the creation of more durable 3D prints.
