Adam Mickiewicz University Press presents a new interdisciplinary monograph by Joanna Puppel and Stanislaw Puppel entitled. "Going Beyond Words: An Outline of Nonverbal Communication." The publication is a fascinating journey into the realm of communication that extends beyond words - into the world of gestures, glances, scents, sounds, and cultural symbols.

The authors, academics from Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, offer an innovative perspective on non-verbal communication as an essential element of human communication. The publication combines the perspectives of communicology, anthropology, linguistics, sociology and psychology to create a coherent and inspiring whole.

In over 230 pages, the reader will find, among other things:

  • an analysis of body posture, facial expressions, eye contact and gestures,
  • a review of touch, smell, taste and music as forms of communication,
  • a reflection on the symbolism of clothing, colours, architecture and monuments,
  • the significance of dance and rituals in social expression,
  • cross-cultural comparisons, such as the differences between East and West.

One of the book's core contributions is the concept of the "logokaryot" - a language-based communication nucleus - and the transcommunicator model, i.e. the human being as a multidimensional communicative agent immersed in the world of language, body and culture.

"Going Beyond Words: An Outline of Nonverbal Communication" is a must-have for students and researchers in communication, linguistics and cultural studies, but also for practitioners, such as psychologists, educators, PR professionals and anyone who wishes to develop a better understanding and use of the potential of non-verbal communication in a cross-cultural context.
