AMU Chamber Choir back on stage

The coronavirus pandemic is a particularly difficult time for musicians. However, the world is gradually returning to normality and artists can finally stand on stage and perform in front of a live audience. The Adam Mickiewicz University Chamber Choir has also returned to performing.

The AMU Chamber Choir has been active for almost 30 years now (next year it will celebrate its round jubilee). It was founded by the conductor, a specialist in voice emission, Professor Krzysztof Szydzisz. The ensemble consists of students, graduates and academics of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and other universities in the city.

The choir performs not only at celebrations and events associated with the University. It also takes part in many competitions and festivals, travelling around the world. It has won the Grand Prix twice at the prestigious Legnica Cantat National Choir Tournament. It is also a laureate of international reviews, e.g. it won the second place in the category of youth choirs in the International Euroradio Choir Competition "Let the Peoples Sing - Oslo'2009" and the second place in the category of mixed choirs during the Balkan Folk Fest (Varna, Bulgaria) in 2012.

The ensemble cooperates with many well-known musicians, both Polish and foreign. Among the artists with whom the choir had the opportunity to work on stage or during recording sessions are Susan Moninger, Stanisław Soyka, Ewa Bem, Zbigniew Kozub, Zbigniew Łowżył, Bohdan Hołownia, as well as The Hilliard Ensemble and the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.

The choir's repertoire is extremely varied. It consists of a cappella pieces and vocal-instrumental forms of all epochs, including renaissance works, polychoral pieces, works from the baroque and romantic periods, jazz and pop standards, contemporary music, film music, and even shanties and cabaret songs - like the one you can enjoy by watching the YT clip above!
