In the 2025-2026 Best Global Universities ranking by U.S. News & World Report, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, has risen nine places compared to the previous year. The university is now ranked 926th in the world out of more than 2,500 institutions!
The Best Global Universities methodology considers 13 indicators based on university reputation, bibliometric performance and academic excellence.
AMU ranked highest in Regional research reputation (121st in the world).
AMU recorded the largest increases in the following areas: Global research reputation (837th in the world; up 144 positions), Books (364th in the world; up 115 positions) and Number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited (1039th in the world; up 61 positions).
In this year's ranking, 2551 universities from 105 countries were classified. In Poland, the AMU, as last year, was ranked 4th after the Jagiellonian University, the University of Warsaw and the AGH University of Krakow.
The top positions in global university rankings are dominated by American institutions: Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Stanford University. Among non-U.S. universities, Oxford University holds the fourth spot, followed by the University of Cambridge in fifth, and University College London in seventh.
The publishing company U.S. News & World Report has been releasing university rankings for several decades; the global ranking, which also includes US universities, in its current form, has been active since 2014.
