Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, has once again confirmed its strong position in Polish academia. In the latest Nature Index ranking, based on data for 2025, the university ranked third amongst Polish universities and fourth amongst all 175 Polish research institutions included in the ranking.

The Nature Index, established in 2014, analyses publications in the world’s most prestigious scientific journals. A total of 21,602 institutions were ranked in this year’s list, including 62 universities from Poland.

Among Polish universities, only the University of Warsaw (1st in Poland, 333rd globally) and the Jagiellonian University (2nd in Poland, 382nd globally) achieved better results than AMU. The Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, achieved 600th place globally.

Strong results in science and natural sciences

AMU was classified into four main research areas. Each of them placed it among the national leaders:

  • Biological sciences – 4th place in Poland (664th worldwide)
  • Chemistry – 5th place in Poland (528th worldwide)
  • Earth & environmental sciences – 6th in Poland (964th worldwide)
  • Physical sciences – 6th in Poland (738th worldwide)

The ranking is based on two key indicators:

  • Count – the number of articles by a given institution in recognised journals, and
  • Share – the proportion of authors from a given institution in publications, calculated on the basis of the number of co-affiliations.
