If you are keen on the most crucial environmental issues - from air quality to biodiversity - this course could be a perfect choice. It is an interdisciplinary master's degree programme that gives you a solid knowledge for working in the environmental sector, public administration or international research projects.
Your studies will address the most current nature and environmental protection issues on a local, regional and global scale. The programme covers five main topics:
- climate change and atmospheric quality,
- water management using innovative methods (including nature-based solutions),
- terrestrial ecosystem use,
- biodiversity conservation,
- practical research and professional skills.
The programme includes more than 1,200 hours of lectures, laboratory exercises, workshops, seminars and field activities. All courses and lectures are held in English.

International experience
The programme has been designed to meet the expectations of candidates with diverse academic interests and educational backgrounds. The study programme lasts four semesters and offers the opportunity to gain international experience at Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, entitling students to graduate and obtain degrees from both universities. The classes are conducted in English, which facilitates employment in an international environment. The teaching staff is drawn from various departments and universities, providing an opportunity for interdisciplinary learning.
Competencies and prospects
During the two-year degree programme, you will be equipped with the skills to manage natural resources and analyse industrial pollution. You will learn how to monitor selected groups of organisms before investment projects and how to conduct public consultations. You will be prepared to design and conduct environmental research. You will also learn the principles of municipal waste management.
The skills and knowledge you gain will lead to jobs in various areas of environmental protection, from environmental protection specialists in public administration and the private sector to an expert in international research and implementation projects. You can also choose to become an environmental consultant or environmental educator.
