EU funds for university buildings

Signing of an agreement on co-financing the renovation of university buildings.

Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, has received funding for the modernisation of buildings in the city centre: the Main Hall, Collegium Minus, the former Collegium Iuridicum and the mansion at 3, Wieniawskiego Street. The project entitled ‘Kompleksowa rewitalizacja i przebudowa obiektów Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza zlokalizowanych w historycznym centrum Poznania (ENG: Comprehensive revitalisation and reconstruction of Adam Mickiewicz University buildings located in the historic centre of Poznań)", will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under Działania 7,1 "Rewitalizacja" Programu Fundusze Europejskie dla Wielkopolski 2021-2027 (ENG: Measure 7.1 "Revitalisation" of the European Funds for Great Poland 2021–2027 Programme).

On Monday, 2 February, the Provincial Authorities formally announced their decision to the universities. Funding was awarded to: Adam Mickiewicz University, Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań and Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań.

"I would like to thank the Marshal for his kindness and support for the University's efforts to obtain funds for the revitalisation of buildings located in the prestigious Imperial District,’ said AMU Rector Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska. ‘They are not only the university’s headquarters, but also a tourist attraction, a showcase for the provincial capital and a symbol of the history of Greater Poland. Thanks to the funds allocated, the AMU buildings will become more magnificent, more accessible and will expand the city’s cultural offering – the University Paramuseum will find its home here," added the Rector. "We are already prepared to undertake the modernisation work, and I am convinced that thanks to the European funds under the Marshal’s control, we will complete everything according to plan," emphasised Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska.

‘These projects provide an opportunity to create three attractive, valuable areas within the city, benefiting not only the universities but also the city’s residents,’ said Marek Woźniak, Marshal of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, speaking about the planned activities of the three universities. ‘This is the idea behind revitalisation, so that not only the facilities’ users but also the wider community can benefit from them. And this is the case with all three projects,’ added the Marshal.

As part of the project regarding the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, three tasks are planned:

The AMU Muzeum will be established in the former Collegium Iuridicum at Święty Marcin Street. It will require the reconstruction and change of function of the ground floor. New installations will be installed: ventilation, air conditioning, telecommunications and power engineering. The removal of barriers is also planned: the installation of a lift, the construction of ramps and the standardisation of levels. The building will also undergo thermal modernisation and renovation of the woodwork. New lighting will be installed, and the landscape around the building will be enhanced with greenery.

The second task concerns the Manor House, the animal house and the infrastructure at 3 Wieniawskiego Street. The Manor House is to be rebuilt and extended. The animal house shall be converted into a library and reading room. Additionally, the construction of an underground passageway is planned, and the demolition and reconstruction of farm buildings. New green infrastructure shall also be added here.

The third task will cover Collegium Minus and the University Hall. The most representative buildings of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, will undergo modernisation of fire protection systems and emergency lighting, installation of air conditioning in some rooms and ventilation in the Lubrański Hall.

The total value of the project "Kompleksowa rewitalizacja i przebudowa obiektów Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza zlokalizowanych w historycznym centrum Poznania (ENG: Comprehensive revitalisation and reconstruction of the Adam Mickiewicz University buildings located in the historic centre of Poznań)" is PLN 92,919,900.00.
