As part of the long-lasting cooperation between the Institute of Geology of the AMU Faculty of Geographical and Geological Sciences and the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) in Thailand, launched after the catastrophic tsunami in 2004, an official meeting with the DMR management was held.
Its purpose was to summarise the activities conducted up to now and discuss the future focus of cooperation for the coming years. The latter will include interdisciplinary research on various geohazards, such as tsunamis, typhoons, landslides, earthquakes, and sea level changes.
Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, was represented by: Dr Robert Jagodziński – Director of the Institute of Geology, Prof. Witold Szczuciński – Head of the Geohazards Research Unit, Prof. Mikołaj Kokociński from the AMU Faculty of Biology, Dr Jędrzej Majewski from the Geohazards Research Unit, and Prof. Przemysław Niedzielski from the AMU Faculty of Chemistry.
The gathering preceded the commencement of further joint research on the Andaman Sea coast, implemented as part of the National Science Centre project “Distinguishing tsunami and storm deposits affected by postdepositional processes – a multi-proxy approach (TSUNASTORM)“ (No. DEC-2020/37/B/ST10/03677), led by Prof. Witold Szczuciński.
