Prof. Carmen Thiele of the European University Viadrina was awarded the AMU Distinguished Medal of Merit

On 14 March, Professor Carmen Thiele of the Faculty of Law at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) was presented with a Distinguished Medal of Merit of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan.

- "Professor Thiele is passionate about science, didactics and, above all, the university and the organisation of academic life," said Professor Zbyszko Melosik, Vice-Rector of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan (AMU), at the ceremony. - "Prof. Carmen Thiele has an extraordinary scientific output, making an undeniable contribution to the discipline of international law, the protection of human rights and Eastern European law. She also has a crystallised personality, thanks to which she knows how to take constructive and effective action for the benefit of other individuals and institutions," added Prof. Zbyszko Melosik.

The laudation was delivered by the Dean of the AMU Faculty of Law and Administration, Prof. Tomasz Nieborak. - "It should be stated with complete conviction that Madam Thiele is a person deeply committed to creating excellent relations between the Faculties of Law of the European University Viadrina and the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, concerning science and teaching, implementing this successfully and with great kindness," emphasized prof. Tomasz Nieborak, listing further the spheres of this engagement, including the laureate's responsibility for the functioning of Polish-German legal studies, her accountability for co-founding the School of German Law run by AMU in cooperation with EUV, and her participation in significant events of the Faculty. - “Let this Medal be an expression of our deep respect and appreciation for all that Professor has done for our University and Faculty and the strengthening of Polish-German relations,” added the Dean of the Faculty of Law.

The AMU Senate decided to award the university distinction to Prof. Carmen Thiele at its meeting on 30 September 2024.
