Prof. Mariusz Jaskólski nominated for the Heisig Award!

20 Polish universities participating in the Research University Excellence Initiative programme have selected eight candidates, from which the Award Chapter has selected three nominees for the highest financial award for a Polish scientist!

Out of the eight candidates, three scientists have been nominated for the award:

Prof. Dr. Mariusz Jaskólski (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań)

  • Chemical sciences, X-ray crystallography. Nomination in appreciation for his structural studies of proteins of great importance for the development of medicine and his contribution to the improvement of X-ray crystallography methods.

Prof. Dr. Tomasz Kapitaniak (Technical University of Lodz)

  • Technical sciences, mechanics and electronics. Nomination in recognition of research on chaotic behaviour of dynamic systems in models from engineering sciences.

Prof. Dr. Lechosław Latos-Grażyński (University of Wrocław)

  • Chemical sciences, organic chemistry. Nomination in appreciation for the discovery of structural dissimilarity of porphyrins, which resulted in a wealth of innovative structures with broad research and application potential.

The initiator and founder of the prize is Professor Norbert Heisig. A medical doctor, born in 1933 in Breslau. He has been involved in the Wrocław academic community for many years. He supports the University of Wrocław in seeking funds for the renovation of its historic buildings. He is the honorary president of the Polish-German Society of the University of Wrocław. Prof. Heisig intends to distinguish a scholar who conducts research at the highest, world-class level.

The prize is worth PLN 200,000 and, in financial terms, is the highest award for scientific achievement in Poland. The distinction is awarded every two years.

The winner of the Heisig Prize will be announced in October. The laureate will be selected by a jury appointed by the Rector of Wrocław University.
