AMU was ranked among the top 500 in the Shanghai Ranking, which analyses over 2,000 universities worldwide, but only ranks the top 1,000. The university achieved high positions in three fields.
In this year's ranking, AMU was classified in two main areas:
- Natural Sciences:
- Ecology: 301-400th place in the world
- Social Sciences:
- Education: 401-500th place in the world
- Psychology: 401-500th place in the world
- Education: 401-500th place in the world
Among Polish universities, AMU ranked 1st in the Ecology area, and tied with Jagiellonian University for 1st-2nd place in the Education area. In the Psychology category, AMU ranked 4th-5th in the country (tied with the University of Warsaw).
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects evaluates universities in 57 subjects within five areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences.
Five core indicators are analysed:

- World-Class Output
- High-Quality Research
- Research Impact
- International Collaboration (measured based on publications
AMU received the highest scores in the High Quality Research indicator:
- 36 points in Ecology
- 28.7 points in Education
- 15.8 points in Psychology
