100th anniversary of granting Marie Skłodowska-Curie an honorary doctorate from the University of Poznan

On November 8-9, 2022, UAM will host a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Maria Skłodowska-Curie from the University of Poznan. The program includes the opening of the exhibition "Maria Skłodowska-Curie. Zakochana w nauce." and a scientific symposium with the participation of guests of honour, Prof. Hélène Langevin-Joliot, Hanna Karczewska, Jadwiga Chrząstkowska, Dr.-Ing. Piotr Chrząstkowski, Dr. Natalie Pigeard-Micault and Renaud Huymh, to be held on November 9 at Collegium Chemicum (University of Poznan 8) The highlight of the ceremony will be the handing over of an honorary doctorate to Marie Skłodowska-Curie to her granddaughter, Prof. Hélène Langevin-Joliot, on November 8 in the Lubrański Hall of the Collegium Minus.
Maria Skłodowoska-Curie, is an outstanding Polish scientist, discoverer of two radioactive elements - polonium and radium, researcher of radioactivity phenomena, co-inventor of radiotherapy and Nobel Laureate in physics and chemistry. In 1922, by the decision of the Senate of Poznan, she was elected the first honorary doctor of the university.
The event was created on the initiative of UAM Prof. Tomasz Pospieszny, PhD, and Dr Iwona Taborska from the UAM Department of Chemistry.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Her Magnificence Rector Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska and under the honorary patronage of the Presodent of Poznań, Mr Jacek Jaskowiak.
