On Tuesday, 17 June, at 5 p.m., the Gerard Labuda Hall of the AMU Collegium Historicum (Morasko Campus) will be the venue for the official premiere of the film “Antoni Patek - patriot and watchmaker” directed by Krzysztof Paluszyński. Produced by PFS PalFilmStudio sp. z o.o. The film was created in cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań.
The documentary is a fictionalised film about the life and activities of Antoni Patek - a November insurgent settled in Switzerland, an activist of the Great Emigration and a prominent entrepreneur.
The film's protagonist made a lasting mark in world history by creating one of the most recognisable, exclusive and desirable watch brands in the world, i.e. Patek Philippe. As the official website reads: "Antoni Patek was a designer of watches that not only measured time, but were thoroughly unique works of art! It is not without reason that he is called the king's watchmaker. His products were worn by, among others, the British Queen Victoria of Hannover, the Danish Queen Louise, King Victor Emmanuel III or Tsar Nicholas II."
Throughout his life abroad, Patek actively supported those who found themselves overseas, protecting themselves from the persecution of the partitioners. Antoni Patek's very name shaped the image of non-existent Poland in Europe and the world. He adorned the timepieces produced in his manufacture with patriotic and religious motifs, i.e. with images of Polish national heroes, battle scenes alluding to the greatest Polish victories, coats of arms of Polish families or images of the Virgin Mary. Along with other great figures of the post-November emigration, he cultivated Polish culture in an attempt to lay the foundations for the rebuilding of Polish statehood.
