From 27 August to 2 September 2023, the Faculty of Geographical and Geological Sciences will host the International OpenGeoHub Summer School 2023. This year's edition, entitled 'Processing and visualizing large geospatial data using R, Python and Julia', will be attended by around 100 young researchers from around the globe.
The OpenGeoHub Summer School is an annual event bringing together experts working on open-source software and open spatial data since 2010. The summer school is a non-profit initiative to enhance knowledge and skills in geospatial data processing and analysis.
The summer school will feature live presentations and demonstrations given by leading researchers and practitioners in the use of programming languages and OSGeo software to process and visualise large geospatial datasets. Additionally, it will include an online streamed panel discussion, "What can the R, Python and Julia programming communities do to combat the climate crisis?" (https://opengeohub.org/event/discussion-forum/), hackathons to test participants' skills and numerous side events. The thematic scope of the school covers many topics of interest, such as machine learning on spatial data, environmental analysis based on time series of satellite data, and processing of large data sets for geographic research.
This year's Science Summer School is a unique opportunity for geoscience enthusiasts, data analysts and young researchers to engage in advanced discussions, develop skills and engage in an inspiring exchange of ideas.
